Mind and Body

When it comes to Physical Education, many people have a biased outlook on the subject.  Despite what people think it isn't just about playing games.  Physical Education and the arts get budget cuts before other subjects do because they are deemed not as important.  Physical Education does more than you know and a few websites will be at the bottom of this page for some information.

Many people think of Physical Education they think that it only improves the body.  Part of that is true.  It does help improve the body.  Which is more important than people think.  We are in the middle of the worst childhood obesity epidemic that we have ever seen.  Students are getting less and less exercise.  This includes in school exercise they are supposed to be getting and exercise out of school that they should be getting.  Getting students to exercise early on in life will only build good habits that they can carry with them for life.  This will prevent them getting diseases down the line as a part of having a sedentary lifestyle

Physical Education doesn't just help with the body though.  Students are able to focus better in other classes after Physical Education.  The classes help with remembering material better which can lead to students having better retention.  There are also times when other subjects relate into PE classes.  Counting yards on a football field or keeping track of score can relate to Math.  Learning how sports started can relate to history.  These are just a few examples.

Overall Physical Education is a subject in school that deserves just as much attention as other subjects.  There are many benefits that can come from Physical Education class and I hope this helped shed some light on just a few.

  1. I like how you touched on how physical education enhances not only the body, but the mind as well. I agree that it is very important to support physical education at a young age in students to promote good habits and to broaden their sense of health.
